Coach Tuberville to speak in Tampa on Wednesday 5/23/07
(originally sent to members via email on March 5, 2007)

Dear FWCAC Members & AUBURN Alumni:

This is an announcement to promote an event that many of you in the Florida West Coast AUBURN Club(FWCAC) would be interested in attending.  We have been invited by the Tampa Bay AUBURN Club (TBAC) to hear  Football Coach Tommy Tuberville speak at an AUBURN regional meeting on Wednesday May 23 2007 at a place to be determined, probably in the Tampa area.  More information will come out on this later.

Skip Ryan, President of the TBAC, has assured us that the event will be family-friendly in regard to price.  We will also get the same price as TBAC members, if one is a member of FWCAC. That should be incentive to join FWCAC. The price for membership is $20 per individual & $35 per family. $5 of each membership will go into the FWCAC Scholarship.

With May 24 being the last day of school in Manatee County, this a great opportunity to bring children to this event. Aubie will be there, as well as the cheerleaders.  As I get more information, I will let you know; just mark the aforementioned date on your calendars.  Watch AUBURN's Men's Basketball Team on Thursday night 3/8/07 as they take on the Georgia Bulldogs at 7:30 P.M.  The game will either be on SunSports or FSN Florida.  Have a great week, & good luck to any of your children on the last leg of FCAT.

FWCAC Winter Social, Monday 2/26 Monthly meeting, & other
(originally sent to members via email on February 11, 2007)

Dear AUBURN Alumni & Friends:

Despite the rainy, cold, dark conditions, the 2/3/07 Florida West Coast Auburn Club (FWCAC) had a very successful Winter Social & Fundraiser.  Over 40 people attended ( I counted 43 in person), & this included 6 children. We even start them young at 7 mos. old; thank you Short family. We raised $520.50 for the FWCAC Scholarship fund, &  $341.00 for the club operating fund.  Also, Adam Buskirk was elected Vice President, & Chris Pope was elected Secretary. Michael Miakinkoff now just has the Treasurer's role to himself, which is a challenging enough job. I, Ben Lawson, was re-elected President & am honored to serve in this position for another term. From the meeting itself, we received 9 FWCAC family memberships & 4 individual memberships. Previously, we had 3 of each. Remember, it's not too late to join. We have lowered club dues to $35 per family membership & $20 per individual membership. For each membership, $5 is placed in the FWCAC Scholarship fund. Please consider this an option for 2007. Also, send in any club information provided, in regard to your interests & talents, if you have not done so already.

During the next 2 weeks, several other events will happen.  For one, AUBURN's fall football game with the South Florida Bulls  in AUBURN is supposedly being moved from 9/15 to 9/8 & will be carried by ESPN or ESPN2. This appears on the South Florida website, but has not been confirmed by autigers.com. Second, I will be in contact with D'ablo Hunter of the AUBURN Alumni Association & Skip Ryan, President of the Tampa Bay AUBURN Club about a regional meeting (to  also include the Polk.Co club, too). By doing this, we will supposedly be able to secure Coach Tommy Tuberville as a speaker.  Please give me your feedback about the highest price you'd be willing to pay for this event. Also, I requested the event be on a Friday evening or a Saturday, so that children can come.

The reason I said 2 weeks is because that is the date of the next official meeting of the FWCAC Officers, Board of Directors & Volunteers. It will be Monday February 26 2007 from 6:30-8:00 P.M. The meeting will be held at Adam Buskirk's office, located at 303 9th Street  West, Suite 201 in Bradenton. The office is located in the Mediterranean styled Wachovia bank building at the southeast corner of 3rd Avenue & 9th Street West. It is across from (to the east of) the old pink hotel that is now under construction. Please indicate to me if you're coming to the meeting by Wednesday February 21 & if you have an item for the agenda, which I will type up on the weekend of the 24th.

We've gotten off to a great start this year so far. Let's keep the momentum rolling. Have a Happy Valentine's Day.

Remember, the football watching party this coming Saturday 10/7/06 at Sarasota Brewing Company (SBC)  Although the Arkansas game will start officially on CBS-10 at 12:00 Noon, we request you try to arrive at 11;45 A.M., so that we can explain the rules of the raffle games & the items to be auctioned. If you can come at 11:00 A.M. to help set up, that would be even more helpful.  Please e-mail if you plan to attend by 8:00 P.M. Thursday 10/5, so I can give SBC a count on Friday 10/6 of how many people will attend. SBC is located at 6607 Gateway Avenue in Gulfgate Village in Sarasota. I have given directions in a previous e-mail, but, if you need to receive them again, call me at 363-0139.  The phone # for SBC is 925-BEER. I hope to see many Tigers present this coming Saturday.

Last Thursday was a close one. But our defense stopped South Carolina on a 4th Down to preserve victory 24-17. We stay in the SEC the next 2 weekends.  FYI, the Florida game has been moved to a night game with 7:45 P.M. EST kickoff on ESPN. There will be no football watching party for that game on 10/14/2006.

However we will meet at the Sarasota Brewing Company (SBC) to watch next weekend's Arkansas game on 10/7/06. That game has a 12:00 Noon kickoff, as it will be televised by CBS-10. Since the doors open at 11:00 A.M., it would be helpful if some of you could come & help set up at that time.

The SBC is located in Gulfgate Village in Sarasota at 6607 Gateway Avenue, with a phone # of 925-BEER. To get there,  I will give 2 sets of directions in the next 2 paragraphs.

If you are coming from North Sarasota or Bradenton, take Tamiami Trail going south just past the Stickney Point Road intersection. You will pass Gulfgate Mall on the left. At the next traffic light, which is Gulfgate Drive, take a left on Gulfgate Drive. Shortly, you will turn left on Gateway Avenue, & the SBC is the chain of stores on your right. If you are coming north from Venice, Port Charlotte, or Englewood, go north on Tamiami Trail.  Turn right on Gulfgate Drive, just before you come to Gulfgate Mall. Follow the previous directions after you get on Gulfgate Drive.

If you are coming from I-75, take the Clark Road exit, which is State Road 72 & head west toward the beaches. At Swift Rd, Clark Road becomes Stickney Point Road. Keep on this road until the next traffic light.Turn left on this street which is Gateway Avenue.  Follow this all the way into Gulf Gate Village.  At the far end of a row of stores on your left is the SBC.

Remember, we will use this party to raise $ for the FWCAC Scholarship fund. We will have raffle games, along with the auctioning of 2 quilts & 2 shirts to raise $ for the fund. We are holding the party at SBC to make this convenient for those in Sarasota & Charlotte Counties. We had over 20 at our meeting to watch the L.S.U. game a few weeks ago; so, I hope to see a similar turnout for this. You may call me at 363-0139 if you have any ?'s. Have a good weekend.
